| Baring Foundation merges funding streams

The Baring Foundation has announced that it will be merging the two funding streams that currently make up its 'Strengthening the Voluntary Sector' programme. This is currently composed of project grants of up to £30,000 and core costs grants, usually of £75,000 over three years. The Baring Foundation has decided next year to merge these two streams into a single fund of larger grants. It is likely that these will range from £20,000 - £100,000 and be for up to five years. They will be open to application through an annual bidding process throughout the UK and will be focussed by one or more organisational development themes. Applications for sums under £20,000 therefore will NOT be considered after the end of this year. |

Funding is available to help improve local communities and the lives of people most in need. Grants are between £10,001 and £500,000 for up to five years on a full cost recovery basis. The maximum overall project size can be up to £750,000. To secure a grant you have to show you are responding to the needs of your community. Essentially, applicants needs to show how the community have been involved in the design of the project and how they will be involved in the delivery of the project. Organisations that can apply include registered charities, other voluntary and community groups, statutory bodies (including schools), charitable or not-for-profit companies and social enterprises. |

The Big Boost, which is funded by the Big Lottery Fund as part of its Young Peoples Fund programme in England, will fund budding social entrepreneurs aged between 11 25. It aims to encourage social entrepreneurship among young people from all backgrounds, helping them develop projects which will make a lasting difference to them and to their communities. Grants of between £250 and £5,000 will be awarded to help individuals and small groups of young people aged between 11 and 25 years old run projects in their areas. |

UK registered charities working at a community and neighbourhood level can apply for funding between £1,000 and £20,000. Applicant organisations should aim to develop innovate new services or activities covering a variety of themes including heritage, providing community facilities or supporting older people.
The foundation will fund capital costs and project funding may be offered for start-up or development activities. The foundation are interested in funding projects that cover arts, preservation and the environment.
Applications can be made at any time and the trustees meet four times a year to consider applications. |

These Community Grants will help locally managed organisations run local projects that make a difference in their local communities.
The first round of the fund is open for applications between 10th April 2006 and 5th July 2006. Grants of up to £12,000 are available with £1,000,000 in total to distribute. Applicants will need to submit proposals that demonstrate successful delivery of key priorities for the fund, and it is expected that the majority of grants will be between £6,000 - £12,000. All funding from this first round must be spent by 31st March 2007.
The fund has four key priorities: -Improving the experiences of people from Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) backgrounds in relation to access and outcomes from public services - education, employment, health, housing and the Criminal justice System -Increasing the confidence of people from BME backgrounds that public services are delivered in a fair and equitable way -Tackling racism and extremism -Bringing together communities from different races and faiths, and promoting a shared sense of belonging (community cohesion). |

The Local Network Fund for Children and Young People provides grants to small, local community groups in England to support vulnerable children and young people. The Fund aims to counter child poverty and youth disadvantage by providing opportunities for children and young people to achieve their potential.
Most grants will range between £250 and £7,000, for one year's funding only. Two-year funding may be awarded to projects in exceptional circumstances. The maximum two year grant is £6,000 each year for two years. |
